Pollena Trocchia . There 's been lost forever, despite Ambrogino Caracciolo wrote that it had been carried out around the story of Pollena in recent centuries. We are talking about Santangelo villa, built in the suburbs of the city in the first half of the seventeenth century and destroyed a few decades ago to build one of three buildings of the Institute Sisters of the Angels.
The main news story of this villa is collected in a volume of Ambrogino Caracciolo, entitled "On the origin of Pollena Trocchia and dispersed the waters of Vesuvius and the possibility of exploitation ofa Monte Somma for tourism" . In this book (published in 1932 and reissued in 1991 by the Pro Loco "G. Donizetti"), the author argues that the villa was built by the family Capece plain, and later, in 1736, was purchased by the Marquis Paul Franco of Salcombe. With new owners, the villa was enriched by other structures and premises designed by Michael Massa . It was so built a new apartment with a large gallery, and made the rooms to house the archive and library of family. Caracciolo reports that the construction of such areas and for expanding the team, it took the purchase and demolition of some houses and a plethora of shacks. This note is important to imagine what could be the time the urban structure of the village of Pollen. Another treasure of this house was his park, in all probability, would be much more extensive than at present. The Franco Caracciolo argues that the family was home to many aristocrats and Pollena the Bishop of Sant'Agata dei Goti, S. Alfonso Liguori . Later the villa was bought by the family of Nicola Santangelo and, among other things, Caracciolo writes: "During the long rule of Santangelo most illustrious personages of the kingdom were of passage for Pollena to make an act of homage to powerful minister, and so King Ferdinand with all the principles of his family there was a day from Portsmouth to donkey for a sudden that seemed rather due to a court intrigue. Finally in 1845, when Naples was home to a solemn Congress leading scientists of Europe, Nicola Santangelo summoned them all to a sumptuous banquet Pollena hundred guests ". This villa also were gathered a rich collection of prints and paintings from the palace in Naples Santangelo of injuries suffered by the waters of Serino.
If the loss of Villa Santangelo is a very serious attack on the history and local culture should not believe, however, that all is lost. Should re-evaluate the park and collect more documents and historical information about the villa in order to share this information through a publication and an exhibition history. Only with the knowledge of his past, citizens and public administrators can appreciate their country and strive to improve their quality of life. (Carlo Silvano)
